In 2007 Brett Castle and the Abbey Motorsport Nissan S14a romped to victory to win the EDC.  As the season is just around the corner, we speak to the Champion and find out what he has in store for 2008

EDC : As an age-old name in Drifting, being Champ in 2007 was a long time coming, how did it feel to finally be the best?

BC : After being champion in the early years of drifting I had a few years of letting other people win! Joking aside, the standard of drifting has advanced so much since then and there's plenty of new talent too. It was challenge in 2007 but finally being champ again is a real privilege.

EDC : In 2007 you won the EDC outright in your S14a prepared by Abbey Motorsport, will you be using the same car again in 08?

BC :I've been extremely lucky to have the backing of Mark and the team at Abbey Motorsport who have invested a lot of time and effort into the car. I will be using the S14a again; however it will be a lot more reliable, have had a few more mods and a few more horse powers too! The car wouldn't be at the high standard it is now without the help of my sponsors, namely Autoglym, HKS, SRB and Tein. Ikuta from Tein is a genius when it comes drift suspension set-up at a competition.

EDC : As  defending Champion what expectations have you got for this year for you and the team in EDC?

BC : I hope I am able to retain my title as EDC Champion- with such a supportive pit crew I have no excuse not to! The confidence and experience we have built up over this year has been invaluable.

EDC : Do you think that car preparation and a professional approach to EDC made a difference to you in 2007 in terms of your final position as Champion?

BC : I've always taken pride in my car and tried to have a professional approach in all competitions. I think this probably put me in good stead for winning the championship. It's also important to relax and enjoy the competitions though as that's what makes the drifting experience so enjoyable.

EDC : What advice do you have for drivers challenging your crown in 2008?

BC : I'd advice them to drive in a straight line, use reverse, aim to get as far into the gravel as possible and always let me pass them. : )

EDC : Who do you think the biggest competition is for 2008 and if it isn’t yourselves, who do you think has the best chance of winning?

BC : Any of the top 5 drivers from 2007 as we were all so close throughout the championship. It depends on the car's performance that day, whether that driver is on form and who you're up against in the twin battles. 2008 should be a very interesting year!

Will Brett cut it to become the 2008 Champ??  You will find out first here!
